I.T. 19

WHAT HAVE YOU LEARNED IN I.T. 19?

Technical presentations serve engineering, scientific and high tech purposes, describing advances in technology, problem resolution, and product design and project status. In general, technical presentations serve one of two purposes: (1) to inform (e.g., knowledge transfer, classroom instruction) or (2) to persuade (e.g., convincing others to adopt a design approach or accept the results of an evaluation process)technical presenters usually augment their presentations with presentation programs most often using Microsoft PowerPoint slides. One common criticism of technical presentations is that slides and other visuals (handouts, documentation) are often complex and too detailed to be effective in a presentation. Gauging one’s audience and assessing the purpose of the presentation (i.e., what outcome is desired) are essential steps to perform to ensure slides and handouts are useful and effective. Another common criticism of technical presentations is that they’re dull, dispassionately delivered, and often hard to sit through. Even though the material may be relatively interesting, in some cases even ground-breaking, there’s a cultural expectation among engineers, scientists and high tech professionals that the “professional” delivery of technical presentations are, by definition, lackluster occasions. One reason for this is that, unlike other public speaking occasions, technical presenters are not usually expert presenters. Instead, they’re usually experts in the material, but not in projecting, engaging the audience, demonstrating enthusiasm, using humor and other best practices successful presenters use. They may have little or no preparation for, or background in, public speaking, yet they are required to do so. Often they present material as if the material should speak for itself, no additional enthusiasm or expression required.

That’s why in this semester, I decide to grab the opportunity to enroll in this subject to be able to aware all about technical presentations and I did not regret because I’ve learned a lot of things in this subject, under by Mr. Yolly Pelegrino. There are two major parts that I learned here in this subject: first from the topic that we discussed then second the personality that we get along this semester. In our first met, we discussed all about on how to make a good presentation. On that day, I got an idea in how to make a proper presentation that we should consider the factors like: the presentation should keep short and simple; the slides should have plenty of “white space” or negative space, which is also applicable to my other subject. Like for an instance, in my report in my other subject (Operating System) and my instructor assigned me to discussed Deadlocks. As an I.T. student we are required to use a PowerPoint so I use the tips that I learned from I.T. 19 and after my report, my instructor in O.S. compliment my presentation because the visual aids is clear
And I applied this to myself when there were times that I am the reporter and my instructor appreciated what I did, so it is tested that those guideline are very effective. We also touched the multimedia, media research, and advertising.
Since in my three years existence here in Caraga State University, I am proud to admit that this is the only part of my life as a student that I’ve learned a lot in multimedia like on how to make infomercials through Uled Video studio. Mr. Pelegrino invite us in the IT 18 Seminar, and frankly speaking I appreciate all it because of those are new to me.
Second is the molding our personality, why I say this? Because its mold my positive personality like proper time management and self-discipline dealing with my classmates. I’ve learned to be diligent in making project and to be long patience person in handling critical situation. I’ve also build self-confidence because I am not shy to share my ideas to others, we also learned to unite and respect other co-groups when making group work. Now,I can say that I already overcome my weakness because IT 19 changed me a lot, it enhance my skills, hidden talent especially my ability that lead me to become an IT Professional.

Before this semester end, I would like to give my heartfelt thanks to our instructor, Mr. Yolly Pelegrino for the wonderful memories, unforgettable moments and of course for sharing his knowledge to us. Although there are times that we got misunderstood to each other but still you are there for us. I would also like to thanks those challenges that make us strong, challenges that sometimes some of us got irritated, but I know it was only for our own good. Now I realized you are one of the best instructors I’ve ever had…Keep up the good work sir and MAY GOD BLESS YOU ALWAYS!!!!
